Organisational Leadership

Aside from our consulting services and specific women’s and men’s programs emberin has a complementary suite of offerings to help organisations become leaders in gender diversity.

Diversity Awareness
Many people are unaware of their own prejudices as they apply to race, gender, religion, age, ability and other differences. Yet isms of various kinds are a strong feature of our society.
85% of believe racism is a problem in Australia. 12% of people own their own racism. It’s why many immigrants still anglicise their names to fit in. Sexism and sexual harassment in Australia are worsening not improving, affecting 1 in 5 women. Some people are ignorant of the part they play in this.

Our introduction to diversity programs helps organisations and individuals understand just how diverse Australia is. People have the opportunity to go beyond their microcosm to appreciate the full breadth and depth of diversity and their role in living and working in a diverse society.

A key leadership attribute – one integral to the overall success of any organisation – is having leaders who are skilled in managing diverse teams. Do you know your diversity profile? Do you have Employee Resource Groups?
Women represent the biggest minority group you have in business. (The major diversity group in business is white male) By focusing on women you have the biggest and fastest diversity impact.

Unconscious Bias
Unconscious bias and stereotyping is still pervasive in Australia and is often linked to the experiences we have growing up and the groups we identify with as adults.

Unconscious bias subliminally works to preserve the status quo. It limits opportunity and constrains diversity efforts.  Like emotional intelligence, being highly attuned to your own and other’s biases is a valuable skill for all people and a sought-after attribute of good leadership.
Within our mastering gender leadership program we address unconscious bias helping people become aware of unconscious biases and stereotypes and how to work on overcoming these.

Flexibility
Flexibility is not an onus on business. It’s an advantage for business. It’s one of the most powerful tactics you have to attract and retain valuable people. And it’s not just a requirement of working mothers. It is a requirement for people of both genders of any age who have a caring responsibility, (child, elderly, sick or incapacitated), study commitments, philanthropic calling or just want to have a better work life balance and avoid traffic and other drains on their output ability. Organisations that do not enable and support flexibility risk losing good people.
Through our programs we help individuals develop a partnership with their organisation around flexibility that is a win win.

Mentoring
Successive studies globally and Australian experiences attest to the benefits of mentoring for women in helping them identify and develop their confidence, talents, passions, career direction and commitment to their job and organisation. Mentoring appears on every single gender diversity best practice list as a tactic which must be employed.
Furthermore it is one of the top two requested items that women believe will help them with their career development. And likewise what GenYs / M want from their bosses are

  1. straight feedback,
  2. coaching and mentoring, and
  3. personal development.

Many managers think that by virtue of them being a boss they are also a mentor – that is not necessarily the case.
That is why aside from our female mentoring and empowerment program emberin has developed my mentor for managers for both male and female managers.

The managers program is a condensed program designed to complement the learnings of women undertaking my mentor challenging women to make it happen. It will help Managers be better leaders of women and have a more rounded understanding of gender leadership. It also provides strategies for them on how to mentor women including tips and templates and specific information on differences between male and female styles.

It’s a great vehicle for managers to increase their engagement with their female team members.

Employee Value Proposition
Many organisations struggle with how to engage women within and beyond their organisation, yet at the same time they acknowledge it’s a challenge they need to take up. We can help with strategies and solutions for attracting, retaining and engaging your female pipeline.  We can enhance the way you communicate and market to women as ‘buyers’ of employment and potential customers.
