Men's Gender Education
We believe men have a vital role to play in helping to transform organisations into richly diverse workplaces that can derive maximum benefit from gender diversity gains. In fact, men are rapidly becoming vocal supporters of this critical business issue with the Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner enlisting some of Australia’s top male CEOs as Agents of Change. They are helping to lead the charge with the broader Australian business community in embracing this key business, economic and societal requirement.
Emberin has been at the forefront of engaging men in gender diversity initiatives in Australia. In 2008 we surveyed over 20 respected diversity champions across Australia and New Zealand which was integral to the development of our white paper on this subject and our my mentor - Mastering gender leadership program – which was a world first.
Across Australia we continue to work with men at all levels of business from boards, CEOs and executives, to middle managers and men working in predominately male, labour- intensive environments.
my mentor – Mastering gender leadership program
emberin’s flagship men’s program has been specifically developed to help men understand the business case around women in the workplace and what gender diversity can do for their organisation. The eight week/ eight module CD/DVD/workbook based program is unique in its self-paced format and features leading Australian business people within the program.
my mentor – Mastering gender leadership provides gender leadership strategies, tips and information on how to lead women and build successful gender diverse teams and businesses. It may also help men to feel more empowered personally!
Key content includes:
- The role men can play in helping women grow their careers.
- Skills on how to mentor women and how to grow a female talent pool.
- Working flexibly is a key business imperative.
- Strategies on how to work with women as co-workers, develop female subordinates and work for a female leader (this includes understanding female challenges and modus operandi).
my mentor – Mastering gender leadership is an essential tool for any male business executive or even managers in blue collar environments responsible for leading mixed teams.
Here’s why:
A 2010 Bain & Company study of Australian attitudes about workplace gender parity surveyed 1200 business people. It found that the higher men go in the organisation, the more convinced they become of the necessity of making gender parity (i.e. equality) a reality. While constant at nearly 90 percent for all levels of female respondents, it climbs from 56 percent of junior-level male employees to 58 percent of managers to 73 percent of male executives.
This suggests that male leaders are beginning to see the necessity of gender parity for the good of the organisation, but not those at lower levels who have the most contact and influence over the majority of male and female workers.
When you consider that organisation structures resemble a pyramid – there’s a lot of education, awareness and development that has to happen with the masses in order for gender diversity initiatives to be truly successful.
