Why emberin?
In-market experience
Emberin has been working in the women’s mentoring and gender diversity space since 2005 with Australian and international pro-gender diversity organisations.
Our expertise is derived from coal-face business experience, executive workshops in Australia, New Zealand, US, India and South Africa, involvement in global task-forces with academia and consulting firms such as PWC, accessing global research and conducting our own studies, plus pioneering and refining through participant feedback, a suite of programs that deliver measurable business results.
Emberin advises a number of diversity councils and counts amongst its clients several top ASX 100 companies, multinationals and all tiers of government.
Global award recognition
The global peak body for expanding opportunities for women and business, is the Catalyst organisation. After working with Telstra for over three years generating a marked improvement in their female statistics and culture, emberin had the privilege of seeing Telstra become the first Australian company to win a pinnacle award from this respected organisation. Both Catalyst and Telstra acknowledge that a key factor in Telstra’s award-winning success was the advice and products (for both men and women) of Australia’s leading gender diversity organisation – emberin.
Demonstrated results
In three years Telstra grew their women in management roles from 29% to 41%and their female management representation from 6% to 31%.
Another top 10 ASX company piloted our program with 45 women, 25% of whom successfully applied for a promotion while a further 9% applied for a promotion, took on a senior role in a relief capacity or moved sideways to build their careers within months of its completion.
At yet another Top 10 ASX company, they piloted our Mastering Gender Leadership program in one region and the success of that program has seen all 20 men volunteer to lead this program with their teams because they see this as such a critical business issue.
The success of these programs has seen our clients do multiple roll-outs year on year to build the capability of their staff, grow their talent pipelines and enhance their engagement efforts. Our successful clients understand that gender diversity is about cultural change and that cultural change requires critical mass.
Most effective Women’s advancement program in Australia
Because of its effectiveness in priming women for advancement and being so transformational, organisations continue to make my mentor available to their female staff. To date over 10,000 women having completed emberin’s my mentor program, making it Australia’s most widely-used women’s career mentoring program. It has been
rolled out globally to international offices of large corporate and government clients and used by multinationals in Australia. The program truly develops the confidence and careers of participants, cultivating their management and leadership capabilities, through a unique and proven mentoring format. Integral to this is the Confucius philosophy: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
The my mentor suite of programs also includes a parental leave program, a manager’s companion program designed to keep participants’ managers involved, and an alumni refresher for past participants.
Most effective Men’s Gender Leadership program in Australia
In 2008, in conjuction with Telstra, emberin developed Australia’s first mastering gender leadership program. To date this program has been undertaken by over 2000 male leaders and middle management in the telecoms, finance, manufacturing, mining and resource sectors, and by sporting bodies. This program is about supporting “male champtions” of gender diversity to become leaders in this space, to understand the practicalities and to be able to talk and lead with confidence and knowledge. It has delivered an eye-opening experience for participants leading to personal transformation, better male female collaboration in the work environment and stronger management capabilities.
Commercial Experience
Emberin’s founder, Maureen Frank, has worked in law and mergers and acquisition in Australia and the UK. She pioneered the M&A insurance industry in Australia, working for AON where she was recognised internationally as one of their standout performers – a fact which lead to her winning a Telstra Business Woman of the Year award and being recognised as a BRW Rising Star. She has executive level business experience, understands commercial requirements and implications and had been a mentor and been mentored for most of her working life. Maureen works closely with business leaders and HR departments bringing to them and their companies’ executive the benefit of her broader business experience.
Marketing Know-how
Two key elements of any gender diversity initiative are communicating to staff (both male and female) and attracting and retaining a valuable pool of talented women. Establishing a powerful employer brand and employee value proposition are critical elements requiring marketing and communication expertise.
Two of emberin’s female directors each have over twenty years marketing experience working for an enviable list of companies from multinationals to start-ups to creative agencies and government accounts. Their experience covers consumer, retail, leading brands, B2B, research, external and internal communications and, of course, marketing to women. They have been integral to the creation of Women’s Village, an unparalled employee value proposition for organisations.
Client Service
Our staff have strong client service backgrounds, are highly responsive and committed to ensuring professional engagements. We see our clients as partners in a common cause – to develop opportunities and potential for women and men while delivering improved results to their organisation.
