Debbie is currently the Deputy Director-General, Water and Corporate Services in the Department of Environment and Resource Management within the Queensland State Government. In this role, Debbie provides strategic leadership and oversight for both the Water Division and the Corporate Services Division of the department.
Prior to this appointment, Debbie held positions as Deputy Director – General Water and Catchment Services in the Department of Natural Resources and Water and Executive Director, Planning Division, with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Through these senior public sector roles in natural resource management Debbie played a leading role in major policy development and implementation and represented Queensland in many national forums. Debbie was a Murray Darling Basin Commissioner and now represents Queensland on the Basins Officials Committee.
Before Debbie’s move into the natural resource management, she established a long and distinguished career in state education, holding many senior positions including Assistant Director-General, Curriculum; Assistant Director-General, School Performance; Assistant Director-General, Schools (Metropolitan); Executive Director, Wide Bay Region; District Director, Fraser Cooloola District; and secondary principal at various schools throughout Queensland.
Debbie is married with two children and two grandchildren. Her interests include French culture and language, yoga and golf and she is well known in the family for her cooking skills.
